Emmanuel United Church at 22 Bridgeport (Cedar) Road West, has played and continues to play a vital role in Uptown Waterloo, specifically for the MacGregor/Albert neighbourhood. It has been a house of worship and offered programs to many residents in the neighbourhood and city for many years.
“Location, location, location.” This real estate mantra was the reason we moved to the MacGregor-Albert neighbourhood in 1970.We were close to work, all manner of retail stores, public transportation, schools, public amenities such as a library and the city’s major park and recreation facilities.
In 1944, when I was three years old, my dad bought 65 Albert Street from Dr. Zwick, M.D. It was a pleasant looking home, with white stucco over double brick with dark green shutters, which had been built in the late 1800s. My dad fixed it up by covering over the old cistern in the back yard and re-plastering the walls in most of the rooms.
